Rising Leaders, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization that empowers underserved middle school students through high-quality mentorship and leadership development training. We are dedicated to supporting bright, young minds by expanding their professional networks and giving them every opportunity to become leaders in their communities. The workshops take place one Saturday morning every month and are held on-site at a partner school location. Each mentor works with his or her student for the duration of a two-year curriculum and acts as a lifelong resource for him or her.
The data suggests that mentorship impacts students in four key areas: (i) improving academic and professional success, (ii) making students feel connected to their communities and their schools, (iii) building their self-esteem, and (iv) and increasing participation in healthy behaviors. Rising Leaders crafts its curriculum around these four key areas and packages them under the umbrella term "Leadership". For two years, the students undergo "Leadership" training alongside their mentors with the aim of being prepared for high school and becoming leaders in their communities and the world. A few examples of our workshop topics include career development, public speaking, working well with others, resilience, and creating social change in our communities. We believe these lessons complement the middle school curriculum and equip our students with the necessary professional and emotional skills to succeed in high school and in life.
