When I was a kid: my mom shaved my head bald because I wanted to look like Michael Jordan. My friends in first grade made fun of me so much that I ran away from school and got lost downtown. Today, I am lost no more and rock a bald head with no shame! #Growth

What has been your greatest moment at Rising Leaders?

My greatest memory during my short time at Rising leaders is seeing how excited and engaged the leaders are during the various workshops. I love to see their enthusiasm and how unabashedly creative they all are.

What has been your greatest moment at Rising Leaders?

Sharing my personal career journey with the Leaders. It brought me so much joy to show the Rising Leaders that it is possible to get into the IT/Cyber field as a person of color - particularly the young females. Hopefully I was able to inspire one person to pursue their Cyber/Tech dreams!

What has been your greatest moment at Rising Leaders?

I joined Rising Leaders because of the ways it uplifts often-overlooked students. What surprised me though was how uplifted I have been by interacting with and learning from the incredible students in this program. It has been one of the most fruitful experiences for me.

What has been your greatest moment at Rising Leaders?

There have been so many great moments in the past two years with our Leaders in DC, but I think the greatest moments for me are just being present and being an example for the Leaders. It's so encouraging to our Leaders to see so many successful black professionals that have similar backgrounds as them. It is also rewarding seeing the Leaders so excited about the program and sharing their excitement about our monthly sessions with friends and classmates. It reassures that we are truly making a great impact in their lives.

What has been your greatest moment at Rising Leaders?

In our workshop on career planning, several mentors went up to the whiteboard and drew out their paths through high school, college, and their jobs. They talked about changing their minds about decisions, dealing with pressure, and what they went on to achieve. I could feel how powerful it was for the leaders (and me) to see all the ups, downs, uncertainty, and inspiration behind success.

What has been your greatest moment at Rising Leaders?

My greatest memory isn't a single moment, but one that happens at every workshop. It's when the leaders speak at the end and share their insights and takeaways from that day's lesson with the group. They are the future and give me so much hope in a world that is kinder and more just. And of course afterwards when they have taught the mentors the latest viral TikTok dance!
