Workshops.

Lasting commitment drives impact.

The Rising Leaders curriculum is two-fold: impactful connections that are built through 1:1 mentorship and monthly group workshops to support the development of leadership, communication, and collaboration skills. The workshops take place one Saturday morning each month and are held on-site at a partner school location. Each mentor works with their student for the duration of a two-year curriculum and acts as a lifelong resource for them.

The workshops address:

  • Be an Anti-Bully: How to identify behaviors that lead to bullying and how to build an anti-bullying environment at your school

  • How to Be Resilient in the Face of Adversity: How to build authentic involvement in the local community through service and advocacy as measures of a strong leader

  • Thinking About What Comes Next? Navigating Careers & College: How to use current interests to explore future opportunities, including an overview of the job search, interview, and application process

  • How to Create Social Change: How Leaders can identify problems in our society—economic, environmental, educational, social, political, etc.—and put their energy and passion behind developing plans of action to address those problems

  • Exploring Identity & Fighting Negative Stereotypes: As Leaders, it is imperative that the students understand who they are, how the world sees them, how they see themselves, and how they can overcome the limitations society places on them.

  • Being your Own Boss; What is Entrepreneurship?: Hear from Mentors about their entrepreneurial careers while developing your own business plan to pitch it to the Mentors

  • Finding your Financial Power: A foundational overview of basic financial management, pushing Leaders to think about money in a more tangible way

  • Knowing Your Rights: Providing tools and resources for the Leaders to safely navigate interactions with authority and most importantly, how to protect themselves and others

  • How to Work with Different Leadership Styles: An exploration of different leadership styles, including a leadership assessment to help Leaders to understand their own strengths

  • Building your Personal Statement: Work with Leaders to develop a personal statement that can be used for high school applications, resumes, and scholarships

  • Loud & Proud: Public Speaking and Effective Communication: While each workshop incorporates Public Speaking, this focused session allows students to practice and perfect the essentials for confident public speaking

  • Finding Resilience and Assertiveness: Tips and tools for Leaders to use when they need to “bounce back” from a setback

  • Teamwork Makes the Dream Work: How to Work Well With Others: Deep dive into teamwork and why it is essential for any strong leader to be able to work with a team, preparing Leaders for future classrooms and work environments.

  • Managing your Time: Tips for Productivity and Organization: Leaders will learn about the relationship between achieving goals and managing time effectively. We introduce a variety of time management tools for improving each Leader’s ability to effectively manage the events in his or her life in relation to time

We believe these lessons complement the middle school curriculum and equip our students with the necessary professional and emotional skills to succeed in high school and in life.
